A great story can forge an emotional connection with your customer. An Iterable study found that 83 percent of consumers are likelier to buy from businesses when they feel emotionally connected.
Think about the businesses you support regularly. Why do you buy from them? They could be large or small mom-and-pop shops down the road, but everyone has a story to tell.
Why create a memorable story for your business?

Storytelling increases conversion rates.
Storytelling can boost conversion rates by 30%.
Storytelling is captivating
Storytelling is one of the most captivating ways to convey information and messages, and it can turn online audiences into followers. It is no accident that Instgara calls its post-feature stories. A post that tells a story about an employee, company award, or event the company went to has the highest engagement versus a sales pitch post.
People are exposed to over 5,000 brand messages daily, but only 12 make a lasting impression. So, how do you make your story stand out?
Here are some tips from the geek!
- Be authentic and vulnerable. I know it is hard being vulnerable.
- Tell the truth.
- Show compassion but also humor.
- Be grateful and humble.
- Share your passion for why you do what you do.
- Show how you want to help.
Now, how do I get my story out there:
- Social media is the perfect platform to start on.
- On your About Us page on your website.
- Tell your story in quick, short videos.
- Create an infographic.
- Write a blog.
- Attend an event and tell your story.
I can’t end this blog by not telling my story right?

The geek chasing Colorado Storms.
I have always loved photography, and it didn’t help that my great-grandfather was one and collected old cameras. I now have most of his cameras displayed in my geek office. So, what does photography have to do with my story? Well, photography is a creative outlet for me. Since the age of 8, I started to take photos for fun. I love being behind the camera and capturing the rawness and vulnerability of what I am shooting. This is funny because I have difficulty being vulnerable, which may be why I tend to be behind the camera.
Well, my photography journey led me down a creative path. I graduated in Visual Communication and then got my first job out of college as a staff photographer for a local energy company. I spent over seven years taking photos of employees, customers, manatees, power plants, you name it. But I craved something more. I was fascinated by the branding behind the photography I was taking. I was helping tell the company’s story but wasn’t creating or designing the pieces until one day when I asked if I could put a flyer together. Fast forward a few years, and I became a graphic designer and loved creating beautiful, robust marketing materials.
I went on to create for several companies until I thought to myself, Why can’t I make these beautiful pieces for my own company and help small businesses in my area? That is when I became an entrepreneur; I never thought I had that spirit in me. My passion lies in helping companies tell their stories and show their passion for why they do what they do. There is more than just that; marketing is a deep hole, but I like to keep it simple.
So that is my story of why I do what I do and why Marketing Geek Chic exists.
